Student Birthday Opportunities

STUDENT BIRTHDAY OPPORTUNITIES

Susan B. Anthony Families:

The staff at SBA understands and appreciates a child’s birthday.  Many teachers use their own traditions to acknowledge their students’ birthdays.  But, many times, at school, a student’s birthday has been a distraction from our main purpose of school, which is student learning and achievement.

In order to minimize classroom disruption, we are asking that birthday treats (i.e., cupcakes etc) NOT be brought to school.  There are several other reasons why we are asking you not to bring food items to school for a student’s birthday:

  • Only healthy snacks (i.e., carrots) are approved by the state.
  • We have many students allergic or unable to eat various foods/ingredients
  • It is disruptive to planned instruction and learning
  • Much of what is brought is thrown away and uneaten by the students

Instead, we are offering two alternative ways to acknowledge your child’s birthday at school.  We think you will enjoy these options and recognize their value over interrupting learning and sugary treats.

Birthday Greeting

For $10.00 cash you can have your child’s name and “Happy Birthday” flash on the school TV monitor (in the office) for the month of their birthday.  Your child’s name will be in lights for approximately 1 month, while at the same time contributing to our funds supporting curriculum and technology goals.  Forms can be obtained in the officeCash only.

Birthday Book

Purchase a brand new, school appropriate book, and our librarian will put a label inside the book designating that the book was donated in honor of your child’s birthday.  The librarian will then share the book and who donated the book during her library time with each class that week.  Books may be turned into office—NO USED BOOKS ACCEPTED.  Please include on a post-it note the child’s name, teacher, and birth date.  This acknowledgement also supports our library and literacy.

We would encourage you to use one of our alternative birthday celebrations, while supporting our school at the same time.  We truly appreciate you supporting our goal of using instructional time efficiently to focus on engaging learning and student success.  We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

A Sincere Happy Birthday to Every All-Star,

The Staff of Susan B. Anthony
